Your Fall Home Maintenance Checklist
Here are five things every homeowner should be doing this fall.
As we head into fall, there are a few things every homeowner should be doing to prepare for the winter ahead. Your home is a huge investment, and it’s an investment you want to protect for a long time. These five tips will help you save money on costly repairs down the road:
1. Check for air leaks. Specifically, check the windows and doors. If your home isn’t sealed properly, you’ll let more cold air in and your gas bills will skyrocket.
Inspect your roof at least once per year.
2. Clean the gutters. Get all the leaves out of there so the winter water will drain instead of damaging your roof.
3. Inspect the roof. Speaking of the roof, do this at least once a year. Have someone inspect your roof to make sure there are no holes, missing shingles, or water damage.
4. Check smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. These are vital safety devices that are even more important in winter.
5. Have your furnace inspected. It’s a very expensive piece of equipment. If it’s not properly functioning, it could lead to health and safety issues or a big bill.
If you take these tips to heart, your home will be in much better shape come spring and in future springs. If you have any questions for me about this topic or anything else related to real estate, don’t hesitate to reach out via phone or email. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
